Wintertime Repairs

It’s winter time and I have a bit of time off from work. Since I do much of my work online and that slows down after Christmas, I try to trim down my work in the wintertime and do work around the house. I like utilizing my time effectively so I make up a list of work that I need to have done by going around the house and actually looking for things to repair or replace.

After making up my list, I will sit down with the list and see what part or tools I need for the repair/replace and then see what I actually need to buy. Sometimes I have everything on hand but other times I need to visit Ace and pick up a few things. I admit that is one of the most fun parts of the task….spending time at the hardware store.

Choices for Power

A friend was asking me about why I don’t just install a power line to my resort property and use the “cheaper” power from the electricity company. I am too far away and the power in the area is too regulated for me. There is no choice to have deregulated power and get the option of real low cost energy like people in other states get to have. Instead I am tied to a single power company and their demands. In my case, all I can do utilize alternative energy for now and hope for the best in the future.

Alternative Energy For My Resort

I’ve done quite a lot of research over the last few years into alternative energy. I even ran a site about alternative energy for awhile but eventually dropped it to focus more on prepper stuff on another site. For me, alternative energy is the way to go. If I can generate at least some of my own energy then I can become more self sufficient. Remember a penny saved is a penny earned.

I am working on a mountain retreat over this winter. Not physical work right now, but more of the research needed to start everything in earnest come early spring. I want a semi-permanent camp that is energy self sufficient. I know this is doable with low cost alternative energy. Solar panels combined with wind turbine is the best way to go for my location.

I’d like to hear some feedback on the best way to implement these.

Time To Install New Sink?

I’d love to put in a new sink before the new school year starts and life gets way to busy. I’ve been looking at a nice triple undermount sink that would be perfect in our kitchen. I really like the idea of having a new one and so does my wife. I think it just might also be a decent investment since it would increase the value of our home.

Can you offer us any opinions in the comment section?

Time For Bow Hunting

I have been looking at getting some bowhunting equipment lately. I see it as a good way to being able to take care of yourself in a SHTF type of situation. Everyone thinks about guns in these kind of situations, but while you can run out of bullets, you can reuse your arrows and keep hunting no matter what comes your way.

And don’t worry, a modern compound bow can give you more hunting power than you need, remember that Native Americans used the old style bows to take down buffalo. Yep, you might want to look into bowhunting equipment ASAP.
