Decrease Expenses Or Increase Income?
I have been giving a lot of thought recently to the problems of making ends meet in these tough times. I have been lucky enough to increase my income substantially over the last several months, but I have also increased my expenses as well. Percentage wise, I am saving just as much as before.
I sometimes wonder if I would be better off trying to save more, but see a slightly lower income, or if I should continue trying to increase income, even if my expenses continue to balloon. It’s a tough problem and there probably isn’t any real solution for it.

My Home Office
I am doing a lot more work at home than ever before and I am loving it. It’s a great opportunity to spend more quality time with my students. It’s also a chance to increase my income and productivity, especially as I get my home office more and more set up the way I want it to be.
For one, I have two computer set up at 90 degree angles so that I just flip in my chair to move from one computer to another. This means that I can quickly change tasks when the need arises. I have also put air conditioning in my office so that no matter what the weather is like, I can work comfortably. Thirdly, I have kept distractions out of my office so that I can get work done.

10X10X5 Savings Plan
Since my time teaching abroad, up until now here in the US, I have been utilizing a 10X10X5 Savings Plan. It has helped me to achieve many of my personal and family financial goals with very little financial pain.
It’s a rather simple plan, but it’s simplicity doesn’t get in the way of its effectiveness. The 10X10X5 works like this. 10% of your income is set aside for charity or church tithings. Another 10% of your income is set aside as savings. 5% of your income is set aside for entrepenuer activities. Maybe it’s opening a business or investing in a more risky investment.
What kind of savings plan do you have?

Alternative Marketing Techniques
Traditional marketing has been put on its ear thanks to the internet. No longer does media spending on TV, radio and print represent the only way to get info on your company’s products or services to consumers. There are alternatives and these are just a few.
1) Make up a Youtube commercial about your company and highlight the products and services.
2) Attend conventions and trade shows as a participant and hand out business cards.
3) Make up blogs for each of your company’s products or services and keep those blogs updated.
4) Look into a simple inhouse telemarketing campaign. Do a an hour or two of cold calling about your products or services when you are doing something else.
I want you to succeed and I know anyone can succeed at business if they put forth the right effort.
