Filipino recruitment scams
It has come to my attention that several agencies out there are involved in recruitment of Filipinos to come to Thailand to teach. It has come to my attention that what these agencies are doing is in violation of law. Their practices are deceptive and they prey on people’s feelings. In the words of one of my reporters, anyone who is willing to trample on another person’s dreams is a shameful person indeed and this is what these illegal recruiters are doing.

A BS in BS
In our last poll, I asked the question, how long have you been teaching EFL. I was surprised with the number of posters with such longevity in the profession. The poll showed the largest segment of readers have been teaching EFL for 2 to 5 years, but a whopping 27% have been teaching more than 10 years and 21% have been teaching more than 5 years but less than 10 years. It is a variation that surprised me, but also coincides with the rise of TEFL sites like Ajarn and Dave’s Cafe.

Discussion Forum Changes

The King’s English
Which English do you teach? Do you teach the King’s English or do you teach a more democratic English? By my using the term the “King’s English” I of course mean the English I would consider to be a very strict form of English relative to grammar, syntax, diction etc. By a “more democratic” English I mean using short cuts, allow learners latitude in their syntax and diction, and the like.
