Independent
I am independent. I am not in the paws of any TEFL company, school, institute or website. I believe in keeping this independence. I will not cowtow to any line that puts any teacher at a disadvantage.
I know previous school watch boards have been seen to be very cozy with the management of teaching websites. Well, I am cozy, but it does not affect my independence. I am not out to create an anti-anything site, but more important than a cozy relationship is that teachers can be on equal footing with schools.
We all know that schools collude with each other against teachers in the form of working hours, pay and working conditions. This is a place where you the teacher can meet with other teachers to discuss these practices and provide valuable information that is unavailable on other forums.
I am not creating a site to compete with established teaching websites, they do their job very good 90% of the time and I know I couldn’t do any better. I just want to have a place to take up the 10% they can not.
This site was a dual function. We have a discussion board for discussion and posting TEFL Watch reports. It includes a place for teachers to discuss issues that they are unable to discuss elsewhere and it includes a place to vent, like all expats do. It’s other function is to serve as a long term repository for School Reports. The best posts in our school reports section will be published on this main page.
This page will have advertisements, but the forum pages will not offer sponsorship or have ads other than the exisiting google ads. I am not motivated by money in this venture, just seeing that teachers get a fair shake.
