Make Your Own Curriculum
I am preparing up written materials for a TEFL curriculum. Making your own curriculum and going through the process that it entails is a great way to take control of your teaching career. There is nothing more satisfying, except maybe some of those best appetite suppressant products you can buy, than being able to present not only a teaching portfolio, but also a ready made curriculum at a job interview.
Making and designing your own curriculum is a way to understand the learning process and help you deliver a better lesson every time. It’s also a very important thing to have when it comes to being independent. If you can remember many other posts here, I advise you to be independent in your jobs. Remember, just like a good appetite suppressant, a self designed TEFL curriculum will satisfy your hunger.

I quite agree that a curriculum you wrote yourself can be quite satisfying and would certainly look good to interviewers alongside a teaching portfolio.
But from my experiences, I think building a solid curriculum should be a team effort in which teachers from many different grades and subject areas can contribute.
I don’t know of anyone who has successfully written an entire curriculum on their own that has been completely accepted by a school district.
Just my two cents. ![]()
I totally agree, I also make my own curriculum and it really helps me to understand it better. This then makes me a better teacher when I teach it to my kids. Great article…
I agree, a curriculum in a normal school is a collaborative process, but in the TEFL industry, it’s whole different ball game. To be successful, you must be able to put together a curriculum from scratch.
It’s 10 times the work but the end result can be extremely rewarding.
