I am sure you have all read the advertisements that proclaim that you can go abroad and have an adventure teaching English in exotic countries around the world. It seems like the same old mantra time and time again. Without a doubt, the ads prey on our desire to see the world.

That’s a good desire, don’t get me wrong, but it’s wrong to assume that true teaching and adventure travel can go hand in hand for everyone. For those wanting to travel and earn money around the world, English teaching is the one job offered up time and time again as the best way to work abroad. Unfortunately, the reality lies far away from the truth.

I know, I fell into that trap myself. Don’t get me wrong, for people who love teaching and love the classroom, there is no better way to see the world. Fortunately, there are now opportunities to make money in just about any country around the world if you’ve got a laptop and some kind of access to the internet. In many cases, with the same amount of work, you can earn much more on the net and have much more personal freedom than you would have as a teacher.

Maybe I should start offering a $1500 course to tell people how to do this? Nah, but I have started a website to help people do just this. More on that when it is ready to go public. If you want to experience an adventure travel lifestyle, you need to explore every alternative, even those opportunities that do not involve teaching.
