Will you get your due?
Well, between now and the end of May, it is end of the contract time here in Thailand. Schools are notorious for nicking part or all of a final salary in Thailand. Sometimes they give reasons, sometimes they don’t. Some foreign teachers in Thailand don’t bother to give notice, just collect their final salary and then say adios. Others desire to do the right thing and have been burned.
I have been burned on final salary in the past. I didn’t take advice given to me, don’t chances, don’t give notice. I tried to do the right thing and go burned. This has colored any advice I would give any teachers anywhere. But how often does this happen? How often have teachers had their final salaries nicked? How often have YOU successfully given notice and received YOUR due in Thailand?
In other words, I want to know how safe it is to give notice and whether it is truly advisable for teachers to give proper notice. Doing the right thing and thinking about the kids is one thing, but losing a month’s pay and/or a bonus is a matter that hits at the pocketbook.
